Effective
The short version
This is a personal site for a speaking and consulting practice. It sells nothing and it tracks nobody across the web. The only information it asks for is what you type into the contact form, and the only reason it asks is so Efficient Frontier Solutions LLC can reply to you.
There is no advertising network here, no cross-site tracking pixel, and nothing about you is used to advertise to you.
This policy also covers events.nicksonnenberg.com and santa-fe.nicksonnenberg.com, which link to it. The same analytics described below run there.
What is collected
Three things, and nothing else.
- What you send through the contact form. Your first name, your email address, your message, and the topic you picked. A phone number, only if you choose to type one — that field is optional and the form works without it.
- Ordinary server records. Like every website, this one runs on a host that records requests: an IP address, a browser user-agent string, the page requested, and a timestamp. These are generated automatically, are used to keep the site up and to investigate abuse, and are not linked to the contact form.
- How the site is used. Which pages are viewed, which of the main buttons are clicked, whether the contact form was sent and which topic was picked, plus how quickly pages load. This is collected by the analytics tools described below, never includes what you type into the form, and is used only to improve the site.
Cookies and analytics
This site uses analytics to understand which pages people read and which links they use. Vercel Web Analytics counts page views and clicks without cookies and without identifying you, and Vercel Speed Insights measures how quickly pages load, also without cookies. Google Analytics sets first-party cookies (_ga) and sends page views and clicks on the main buttons to Google; you can block it with any content blocker or Google's opt-out browser add-on.
HubSpot sets first-party cookies (hubspotutk, __hstc and __hssc) and records which pages you view. If HubSpot already knows who you are, for example because you clicked a link in an email sent through it, those page views are added to what it holds about you, so a reply can take into account what you have read. The same HubSpot account is used on getleverage.com and comeupforair.com, so following a link between those sites can connect the visits. Any content blocker stops it too.
None of this is used for advertising, and the site loads no advertising script.
Typefaces are compiled into the site when it is built rather than fetched from a font service while you read, so visiting a page does not tell a third party that you were here.
If this changes — another tool is added, for instance — this section changes with it, and the effective date above moves.
Who else sees it
Three service providers, each doing one job:
- Vercel hosts the site, generates the server records described above, and runs Web Analytics and Speed Insights.
- Google receives the Google Analytics data described above.
- HubSpot receives contact-form submissions and stores them so your message can be found and answered, and receives the page-view data described above.
Email you may receive
The contact form carries an optional checkbox for occasional email. It is unticked by default, sending the form without it works exactly the same, and nothing is recorded as an opt-in unless you tick it yourself.
If you do tick it, every email that follows carries an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing is honoured immediately.
Either way, writing to hello@nicksonnenberg.com gets a human.
How long it is kept
Contact-form submissions are kept while the conversation is live and for as long afterwards as there is a business reason to remember it — a past enquiry about a speaking date is useful context for the next one. Ask for deletion and it is deleted.
Server records are short-lived and are retained by the host on its own schedule for operational and security purposes.
Your rights
Write to hello@nicksonnenberg.com and ask. You can ask for a copy of what is held about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted. You will not be treated differently for asking.
If you are in California, the CCPA as amended by the CPRA (Cal. Civ. Code § 1798.100 et seq.) gives you rights to know, to delete, to correct, and to opt out of sale or sharing. Nothing here is sold or shared for cross-context behavioural advertising, so there is no opt-out to exercise — but the right to know and to delete apply, and the address above is how to use them.
If you are in the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area, you have equivalent rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, and objection. The lawful basis for handling a contact-form message is the legitimate interest in answering someone who asked to be answered, and consent for any marketing email.
Children
This site is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has sent something through the form, write to the address above and it will be removed.
Changes, and how to reach a human
If this policy changes, the effective date at the top changes with it. Material changes will be described here rather than folded in quietly.
Questions, requests, or corrections: hello@nicksonnenberg.com. Email is read and answered; it is the fastest route.
